Memorial Day Parade: Take a moment to recall that Memorial Day wasn’t simply set aside as a national barbecuing moment. The parade will step off at noon and proceed south on State Street from Wacker Drive to Van Buren Street. With 10,000 participants annually, the procession is billed one of the largest in the country. Participants include many area high schools' Marching Bands, Drum and Bugle Corps as well as many Veterans' groups, JROTC and the military.

Bikes on LSD: There’s a good reason to get up at the crack of dawn this Sunday, May 25. The post-ride bash takes place from 8 a.m.-noon.

Can I Get Jazz with That?: 200 East (http://www.200eastchestnut.com/) is one of the Gold Coast’s hidden gems as far as live music is concerned. : Located on the main level of the Seneca Hotel, the supper club features live entertainment Tuesdays through Saturdays, and encourages dancing on its expansive dance floor. The menu offers Old World, authentic Italian-inspired cuisine, plus numerous bar creations. The upbeat music showcases a number of different talents. On Friday, May 23 listen for Molinea Isha, while Cindi Cronin does the crooning on Saturday, May 24. There is never a cover or minimum.

Summer’s Sizzle: As far as Navy Pier (http://navypier.com/things2do/fireworks.html) is concerned, fireworks aren’t just for Independence Day celebrations. Beginning this Saturday, May 24, the lakeside gem presents a dazzling display twice weekly through Labor Day weekend, with soundtracks provided by Jack FM (Wednesdays) and B96 (Saturdays). A special patriotic soundtrack will accompany this Memorial Day weekend show. Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and 10:15 p. m. on Saturdays. Consider catching these spectacles with a lakefront seat on one of the many nearby boat tours, as several offer special fireworks cruises.
