The Sound of Macy’s: Macy’s on State Street (http://www.visitmacyschicago.com) has been a National Historic Landmark since 1979. Download MP3 audio tours to experience the Macy’s State Street store (http://www.visitmacyschicago.com/visitors%5Caudio.cfm). Go beyond the racks and shelves of merchandise for an insider’s glimpse filled with facts and history. Tours include the Trend House Audio Tour, which guides you through this year’s home decorating trends and ideas. The Flagship Icons Audio Tour gives you the history, architecture and nostalgia of this Chicago store.
Hershey’s on the Runway: From Bravo to Chicago! The Hershey’s Chicago store (http://www.hersheys.com/discover/chicago.asp) will have five of the dresses created on Project Runway displayed through March 23. All of the dresses from the “Eye Candy” episode were made from items found by the designers at the Hershey’s store in Times Square. The dresses will ultimately be auctioned-off online with the proceeds benefiting the Young Survival Coalition (http://projectrunway.auction.seenon.com/), a group focused on conquering breast cancer in young women.
Late Night at ComedySportz: Leave the kiddies at home for your next trip to ComedySportz (http://www.comedysportzchicago.com/site/epage/3328_245.htm). The comedy improvisers offer two new shows. On Fridays at midnight check out The Beatbox, which fuses long-form improvisation with hip-hop conventions, which means battle raps, samples, and hilarious "remixed" scenes. On Saturdays at midnight you’ll see The Hot Karl. As the name suggests, The Hot Karl is an improv show intended for mature audiences who appreciate dirty improvised comedy and R-rated language. Tickets for both shows are $10.
Jerusalem Then & Now: Give your weekend an intellectual twist and head to the Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies (http://www.spertus.edu/programs/lectures/breuer.php) for a lecture titled, “Zionist Dreams, Israeli Nightmares?” On Sunday, March 9 at 2 p.m., Dr. Edward Breuer will explore Zionist thought at its inception and compare it with the realities that shape Israel today. Dr. Edward Breuer, a native of Montreal, received his PhD at Harvard University. He has taught at Loyola University-Chicago, McMaster University, University of Pennsylvania, the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, and Hebrew University. Free, but reservations recommended.
