Happy Valentine's Day! If the thought of the impending holiday has you in a bit of a panic, not to worry. Concierge Preferred's events calendar (http://www.conciergepreferred.com/search?category_id=&host_city_id=1&beginning_date1=February+13%2C+2009&end_date1=February+15%2C+2009) has a winning selection of restaurants ready to romance you and your sweetheart to your hearts' contents. Leaving you to simply sit back and toast each other (but feel free to spend a few kind words on us as well).

St. Valentine’s Day Massacre: It’s not all candy and roses. Tommy Gun’s Garage (http://www.tommygunsgarage.com/) shows you the decidedly non-romantic side of the holiday by re-enacting the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre in honor of Valentine’s Day, as they do every year. Presented Thursday, Feb. 12-Sunday, Feb. 15 at various times. Seating is limited. Tickets are $65-$75 and include a full menu of lasagna, chicken with a marsala or lemon herb sauce, prime rib, pork chops or fish, plus soup or salad, bread, vegetable, potato, and dessert. Coffee, tea or soft drink are also included, but hooch (alcohol) is extra. Tax and Gratuity are also included.

Non-Taxing Shopping: Whether you see it as President’s Day or Valentine’s weekend, it’s a great excuse to shop and stimulate the economy. Especially thanks to The 900 Shops (http://www.shop900.com/events/) Tax Free Shopping Event, from Saturday, Feb. 14-Monday, Feb. 16. The 900 Shops’ participating retailers will offer a 10.25% discount (Cook County sales tax) to all shoppers, including sale items. Shop and save at luxury retailers and customer favorites such as J.Crew, Lululemon Athletica, Club Monaco, Diesel, Montblanc, Mario Tricoci, Charles David, Fogal, Original Penguin, Genevieve Lethu, Galt Baby, Kaehler TravelWorks, L’Artisan Parfumeur and many more! A full list of participating retailers is available on the website. Individual store exceptions may apply. As a President’s Day bonus, you can park at a special “Alexander Hamilton” rate – only $10 for the entire day. Parking tickets must be validated with purchase. To participate in The 900 Shops’ “Tax Free” weekend, visit http://www.shop900.com/events/ to print off your access pass, or visit one of the Concierge Desks, located on Level 1 & 6, to request an access pass.

Don’t Dress for Dinner: If you’ve considered putting theater on your list of budget cuts, we have good news. You can see the hit romantic comedy “Don’t Dress for Dinner” (http://www.theroyalgeorgetheatre.com/) at the Royal George Theatre for a mere $30. Just call 312-988-9000 and use the code GUEST. This offer is good for Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday evening performances now through March 15, 2009. (Limit 6 tickets per household. Not valid February 11-15.) Subject to availability. Not valid on previously purchased tickets or with any other discount or promotional offer.

Meet the Oscars: Sure, the Academy Awards presentation is in Los Angeles. But before the big reveal in L.A., Oscar fans in Chicago will be able to hold an actual Oscar statuette and have their photo taken. The one-of-a-kind exhibition opens Friday, Feb. 13, at The Shops at North Bridge (http://www.theshopsatnorthbridge.com/events.asp?id=9202) on Michigan Avenue, and runs through Sunday, Feb. 22 (the night of the 81st Academy Awards presentation). Chicago is the only city to host a “Meet the Oscars” exhibition this year. Best of all, admission is free. “Meet the Oscars, Chicago” features a display of Oscars in various stages of completion, as they undergo their intricate, weeks-long manufacturing process. Chicago’s own R.S. Owens & Company has manufactured the statuettes each year since 1982. Six of the Oscars on display will be presented at next year’s Academy Awards ceremony. Also on display will be the historic statuette that actor Clark Gable won for his performance in “It Happened One Night” (1934). Hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
