Lights, and Plenty of Action: The legendary Magnificent Mile Lights Festival (http://magnificentmilelightsfestival.com/) returns Saturday, Nov. 22. This peerless start to the holiday season will boast the usual spectacular parade and fireworks, plus family activities galore. Oh, did we mention the one million-plus lights? And don’t forget Mickey – and Santa!
Hancock Holidays: Every weekend through Sunday, Dec.21, the Hancock Observatory ushers in holiday cheer (http://www.hancock-observatory.com/en/Whats_on/events.html) with seasonal décor and merriment for the whole family. What better place to view the city’s holiday lights than from 94 stories above the Magnificent Mile? Then there’s the Hancock Holiday Mountain Railroad – back for its 15th year at the Hancock building. Plus, Santa will be available every weekend from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This weekend, don’t miss Cookies, Sprinkles and Santa, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22 and Sunday, Nov. 23. Take cookie decorating to new heights with help from an apprentice chef at a decorating demonstration and have the opportunity to decorate your own cookies.
A Mission to Shop: For a terrific variety of holiday gifts, visit the 37th Annual Gazebo Holiday Market (http://www.jlchicago.org) on Saturday, Nov. 22. The River East Art Center will be transformed into a cozy and unique boutique shopping experience featuring more than 40 vendors from across the country. A preview party on Friday, Nov. 21 (7-11 p.m., $75-$85) includes cocktails, appetizers, music and a raffle. And best of all - a portion of all purchases goes to support the Junior League of Chicago's mission and programs, making this the "ultimate gift with purchase event". Saturday’s hours: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Admission: $10.
A Holiday Classic: This Friday, Nov. 21 is opening night for the annual run of “A Christmas Carol” at The Goodman Theatre (http://www.goodmantheatre.org).
