Window on Family Fun: Macy's on State Street kicks off the holiday season this Saturday, Nov. 15 with its Holiday Family Fun Day and Dr. Seuss’s Mayor Whoville Book Reading. http://www1.macys.com/store/event/index.ognc?action=locatorSearch&ZipCode=60602&City=&State=NOSELECTION&Submit.x=20&Submit.y=5. Join the Mayor of Whoville at noon for a very special reading of the classic children's book Horton Hears a Who! by Dr. Seuss. While you’re there, visit Macy’s SantaLand on the Fifth Floor in the Children’s Department (after a stroll down State Street to see the animated Christmas windows, of course). Children are invited to get their pictures taken with Santa Claus, through December 24, during store hours.

The afternoon begins with the 2 p.m. matinee of the musical, followed by a themed five-course meal at 5:30 p.m.) On the menu: Kellerman’s borscht soup and Catskills' beef knish; “Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner” baby lettuce salad; “Mambo” ice cream with rugelach cookies; and more. The event’s Grand Tasting will showcase over 50 producers of pinot noir. Consumers will be able to sample up to 150 pinots from every important region in California, Oregon, New Zealand, and Burgundy. Meet the winemakers and hear their stories. They will also offer a number of winemaker dinners for auction, donating to the Pinot Days 2008 Auction Beneficiary, the Tanzanian Women's Sewing Project. The schedule includes Public Tasting from 1-5 pm for $50, and Winemakers Table Hop Dinners on Friday, Nov. 14. They call these "Table Hop Dinners" because the Winemakers move tables with each dinner course, enabling them to get to talk with as many attendees as possible.
