Scarily Worthy Cause: Trick, treat, or worthy cause? Fright Fiesta (http://www.soill.org/events.php?EventsID=798), hosted by the Young Professionals Board of Special Olympics Chicago Friday, offers all three this Friday, Oct. 31. Held at Moe’s Cantina, the frightful festivities include a food and drink package offering all domestic and imported beers and well drinks. The party also features music, a costume contest and a silent auction offering sports and entertainment tickets, spa and restaurant certificates, trips and more. Proceeds will support opportunities for children and adults who live in Chicago to participate in Special Olympics training and competitions offered throughout the year. Fright Fiesta runs from 8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. Tickets $45 in advance, $50 at the door (cash only at the door).
Swingin’ at Sully’s: Kick the weekend off at Sullivan’s (http://www.sullivansteakhouse.com/). Fear 'The Fear': What’s Halloween without a side of spine-tingling fear to go with your candy? Navy Pier’s The Fear Haunted House (http://navypier.com/halloween/fear.html) fits the bill. This tented, outdoor haunted house in Gateway Park is geared toward teens and adults and features caged zombies, werewolves, albino clowns, vampires and hunters. A fireworks display takes place on Fridays and Saturdays through Nov. 1. The Fear hours are 6 p.m. - 11 p.m. (ends November 2). Price: $20; kids 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult Navy Pier.
Culture Club: Up your intellect, try something different, and check out the 19th Annual Chicago Humanities Festival (http://www.chfestival.org) runs through Nov. 16. The schedule of events includes readings, performances, lectures, discussions, films and concerts from internationally recognized authors, scholars, poets, artists and others. This year's theme is "Think Big," an exploration of ambitious human works and ideas past and present. Participating venues include the Art Institute of Chicago, Facets and Chicago Cultural Center. Price: $5-$15 per program. Some fees may vary.
