Happy 20th, 900 Shops!: The 900 Shops (http://www.shop900.com) is celebrating 20 years on Michigan Avenue this October. In recognition of this occasion, they are hosting a one-day only shopping event on Saturday, Oct. 18th from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. The anniversary event will offer in-store promotions, deejay entertainment, raffle prizes, food sampling from Frankie’s Pizza, America’s Dog, King Café Gourmet and Go, and more! On top of the in-store offers and more, The 900 Shops is pleased to offer a ‘900 Shops $20 Gift Card’ with any purchase made on Saturday, October 18th totaling $100 or more. Customers can bring their receipts of $100 or more and redeem their gift card at the 6th Floor Concierge Desk. This offer is valid for the first 500 customers, one per customer only.

Wine & Waves: Wendella invites you to savor a little something extra with your architectural river cruise: wine and food. The Wine and Waves Tour (http://wendellaboats.com/wine08.htm) combines fine wines from Kafka Wine Company, Italian creations from Buca di Beppo and samples of olive oils from Ta-Ze Olives and Olive Oil Boutique, as well as an architectural river tour of Chicago. The next Wine and Waves tour is offered on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Participants must be 21 years or older.

Carnival of Curiosities: While you can also experience The Fear Haunted House, Navy Pier presents "scare-free" family fun at its Carnival of Curiosities (http://navypier.com/halloween/curiosities/curiosities_home.html) in Pier Park every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through October. Guests can interact with their favorite sideshow characters including the Half Groom / Half Bride, Fortune Teller, Traveling Medicine Man, Organ Grinder and Human Monkey and more. View the Story of the Haunted Carnival. Hop on the McDonald's Ferris Wheel and listen to eerie Chicago ghost stories inside your own gondola car while riding high above Navy Pier. Every Friday and Saturday evening at 8 p.m. before the fireworks, Navy Pier's Grand Staircase and Dock Street will transform into a dazzling spectacle with street performances by fire spinners, acrobats, break dancers, drummers, stilt walkers, costumed characters, and more. Navy Pier's famous fireworks continue to sparkle above the lakefront with shows every Friday and Saturday night at 9 p.m. to a special Halloween soundtrack. Free Admission for character appearances and performances. Tickets required for Pier Park rides. Please note this is an outdoor event and character appearances and performances are subject to delay or cancellation due to weather conditions.

Chicago Film Festival: Who needs Sundance, or Toronto, or Cannes? From Oct. 16-29, the Windy City is home to the 44th Annual Chicago Film Festival (http://www.chicagofilmfestival.org/cgi-bin/WebObjects/CIFFSite.woa/wa/pages/Home), which features screenings of more than 175 feature films, shorts and documentaries from emerging and established filmmakers from 45 countries. This year they’ve added a festival village in Streeterville and River North to offer easy access to participating theaters. Activities before and after screenings will take place at nearby hotels, restaurants, etc. The "Green Screen" series will focus on environmental issues. Oscar-winning actor Sidney Poitier ("Lilies of the Field") will be honored on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 6:30 p.m. at Chase Auditorium. This red carpet gala features a cocktail reception, clips of Poitier's films, an onstage interview with the actor and live entertainment. Tickets $150. Film highlights from the festival include "The Brothers Bloom," a tale of the last adventure of the world’s best con men; "The Wrestler," a portrait of a battered dreamer starring Mickey Rourke, Evan Rachel Wood and Marisa Tomei; and "Slumdog Millionaire," a tale of an 18-year-old Indian orphan who is one question away from hitting the jackpot on a game show.

Around the Coyote: The popular art festival Around the Coyote (http://www.aroundthecoyote.org/festivals/2008_fall/) presents its fall extravaganza from Friday, Oct. 17-Sunday, Oct. 19. It’s in new digs this time, now located at Journeymen Plumber's Hall in the West Loop. Touted as the city's largest art festival, Around the Coyote invites you to see works by hundreds of visual, film, video and performance artists. Individual performances free-$10; day passes $10; weekend passes $15; all-access and opening night pass $40.
