Marathon Must Haves: Santa isn’t the only one with a list to be checked twice. For those running the Chicago Marathon (http://www.chicagomarathon.com/cms400min/chicago_marathon/) this Sunday, Oct. 12, Fleet Feet (http://www.fleetfeetchicago.com/) offers a checklist of essentials for the big race: http://www.fleetfeetchicago.com/pdf/marathon_checklist.pdf. Even if you’re not running, the marathon provides great entertainment for spectators, with a terrific course that winds throughout the city. And who knows, it might inspire you to lace up some kicks and get yourself in gear for next year’s event…

Churches by Bus: Chicago is home to some of the world’s finest houses of worship. Their beauty enriches the fabric of the city and reflects its spiritual, ethnic, and aesthetic heritage. The Chicago Architecture Foundation’s annual bus tour (http://www.architecture.org/tour_view.aspx?TourID=19) will visit five churches by famous architects in a variety of architectural styles. Churches on this year's tour include:
Church of the Holy Nativity - Episcopal (1953); St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church (1968); St. Joachim Roman Catholic Church (erected 1895, remodeled 1933); St. Margaret of Scotland Roman Catholic Church (1926); and Trinity United Methodist Church (1939). The six-hour tour takes place Saturday, Oct. 11, 11:30 AM-5:30 p.m. Tickets $48, $40 for CAF members.

A Little Bit Country: The 18th annual Country Music Festival (http://www.chicagocountrymusicfestival.us) moves to the Soldier Field Parkland this year, and takes place on Saturday, Oct. 11th and Sunday, Oct.12th. The weekend full of music and activities, once a part of the Taste of Chicago, features concerts and a new festival area that promises to draw some of the biggest names in country music, including Gretchen Wilson and Taylor Swift. There are three performance stages, a Kids' Corral tent and a dance tent. Admission is free.

Last Comic Standing Live: LOL - please! NBC’s “Last Comic Standing Live Tour” http://weblogs.cltv.com/community/news/chicago/2008/10/nbcs-last-comic-standing-live.html opens The Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University’s 2008-2009 season in a Chicago-area exclusive engagement. On Saturday, Oct. 11 at 8 p.m., the Emmy-nominated series’ sixth season winner Iliza Shlesinger, along with season six finalists Jeff Dye, Louis Ramey, Jim Tavare, and Marcus, will each present 20-minute sets of stand up. Whittled down from hundreds of contestants, this talented group made it through several rounds of auditions, not to mention the television show. Tickets range in price from $38-$66.
