When new wines are cellared for a long winter’s nap and the larder is full of harvest bounty, the mood turns festive in Missouri Wine Country. On Nov. 15 and 16 seven Hermann-area wineries will host The Holiday Fare Wine Trail, a celebration of good food and good wine, shared with family and friends.
“After the hard work of harvest, everyone really gets into the spirit of this event,” says Patty Held, president of the Hermann Wine Trail. “Some wineries serve favorite family recipes. Others invent new dishes for the occasion.”
The 2008 Holiday Fare tasting menu will feature:
• Adam Puchta Winery — Pommes Paysanne (Provencal potato casserole), paired with Hunter’s Red
• Bias Winery — Sweet Potato Crisp, paired with River Bluff Rouge
• Bommarito Winery[/B] — Marinated Pork Tenderloin with a Rosé Reduction Sauce, paired with Almond Tree Rosé
• Hermannhof Winery — Jambon de Chablis (Chablis-style ham), paired with Chardonel
• OakGlenn Winery — Smoked Pork Loin with Chardonel Ginger Sauce, paired with Chardonel
• Röbller Winery — Roast Turkey Medallion with Tomato Apple Chutney, paired with Letrompier Noir
• Stone Hill Winery — Toffee Bars with Caramel, paired with Cream Sherry
Held each year the third weekend of November, the Holiday Fare Wine Trail is one of four annual events hosted by Hermann-area vintners. The Chocolate Wine Trail is the third weekend of February, the Hermann Norton Wine Trail is the first weekend of May, and the Berries & Barbecue Wine Trail is the last full weekend of July.
At each Wine Trail event—billed as “tasteful travels in Missouri Wine Country”— visitors sip and sample their way along a route that meanders for 20 scenic miles along the Missouri River between Hermann and New Haven. The $25 per person ticket price (advance purchase required) includes a souvenir wine glass and charm.
Wednesday, Nov. 12, is the last day tickets will be sold for the Holiday Fare Wine Trail. Tickets are available online at www.hermannmo.info or from the Hermann Welcome Center, 800-932-8687. To learn more about the Hermann Wine Trail visit www.hermannwinetrail.com.
