Fall for the Horses: It’s time for the Fall Thoroughbred Meet at Hawthorne Racecourse (http://www.hawthorneracecourse.com/). The season kicks off this Friday,

Dia de los Muertos: The Halloween season gets an early start at the National Museum of Mexican Art (http://www.nationalmuseumofmexicanart.org/). Their annual exhibit honoring the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) opens this Friday, Sept. 26. This year’s exhibit, “La Vida Sin Fin,” 22nd annual collection highlights local artists and includes a tribute to student demonstrators killed 10 days before the 1968 summer Olympics in the Tlatelolco massacre. This is one of the nation's largest Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead exhibits. The opening reception runs from 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., and admission is free.
Much Ado about Fado: The mother of all Irish pubs in Chicago, Fado treats Guinness as a religion and has the feel of last-century Ireland--except when the European football games are on. Several nationally known Chicago chefs offer up their signature creations for the event, which features food and wine tastings, seminars, cooking and wine demos and more. The Millennium Park-based festival runs from Friday, Sept. 26 (6:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.) through Sunday, Sept. 28 (11 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday). Price: $150; $250 for weekend pass; prices vary for special events.
