Eli’s Cheesecake Festival: Where else can you see the Jesse White Tumblers flying over a giant Eli’s Cheesecake, but the Twelfth Annual Eli’s Cheesecake Festival (http://www.cheesecakefestival.com)? It’s a family affair, with the Michigan Apple Queen and her Court; The Happiness Club performing their award-winning musical show; Band on the Run, Karen Hart Band, the Teflons and more music for adults and kids; family stage entertainment; classic car show with over 100 cars; kids’ activities including cheesecake eating contests, cheesecake bingo, cheesecake hula hoop contests and kiddie rides. The festival runs from Saturday, Sept. 20 through Sunday, Sept. 21 and takes place at Eli’s Cheesecake World, on the corner of Montrose and Forest Preserve Drive in Chicago. Admission is free and open to the public. A portion of the proceeds from food and cheesecake sales will benefit the New Horizons Center, a school for the developmentally disabled located adjacent to the bakery. In addition, donate any non-perishable food to the Greater Chicago Food Depository and get a free slice of Eli’s Cheesecake. In addition to divine desserts, find hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, and roasted corn on the cob. Also, visit the Culinary Pavilion to see chef demos and sample culinary delights from around the city.

Custom Reds: Custom House invites you back to school for its Fall Reds Wine Pairing Class and Tasting: (http://www.srgchicago.com/event_test.html?eventid=1207262276272092) on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. Guests will be led in a wine and food pairing class by Custom House owner Sue Kim-Drohomyrecky. Small bites prepared by Executive Chef Shawn McClain will illustrate the pairing potential. As an added bonus, featured wines from that day’s tasting will be made available to guests who choose to stay for dinner in the restaurant’s dining room for just $10 per bottle. Class cost: $40 per person.

Fall into Sightseeing: Summer may be behind us, but Shoreline Sightseeing’s (http://www.shorelinesightseeing.com) fall schedule is full speed ahead. The one-hour Chicago River Architecture Cruises has multiple departures daily beginning at 10 a.m. to mid-October and beginning at 11:30 a.m. mid-October to Nov. 30th. The Skyline Boat Tours are also available throughout the week. And the Fireworks Cruises take place Friday and Saturday evenings through November 1. Tickets can be purchased online the week prior or at dockside.

Halfway to St. Paddy’s Day: Not even in Ireland are they this devoted to the holiday. Celebrate the halfway mark to St. Patrick’s Day this weekend at Lizzie McNeill’s (http://www.lizziemcneillsirishpub.lbu.com). This benefit party lasts Friday, Sept. 19 through Sunday, Sept. 21 and celebrates the six-month mark to St. Patrick's Day, the "High Holy Day" in Chicago. U2 tribute band Elevation will kick off the live music and the street outside Lizzie's will be blocked off to allow the party its breathing room. Wear green and enjoy the riverfront patio here, as well as new menu fare, including sandwiches, wraps, burgers, salads, and more.

Oktoberfest, Berghoff-Style: Germany has its versions, and the Loop has had its own Oktoberfest for quite some time, too. Billing itself as a “real Oktoberfest,” the Berghoff Oktoberfest (http://www.theberghoff.com/public_events/BerghoffOktoberfest.aspxoutdoor) is an outdoor celebration in Federal Plaza that lasts through Friday, Sept. 19. The event offers live music, food, and drinks. Friday’s music lineup features The Johnny Wagner Band at 11:45 a.m. and Hat Guys at 5 p.m. There is also a raffle to benefit the Breast Cancer Network of Strength. The festival runs 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. Admission is free.
