Ferrari Festival: Did you always wonder what a Ferrari looked like, aside from as seen on TV? See it for yourself at the 11th annual Italian Village Ferrari Festival (http://www.italianvillage-chicago.com/events.php.) On Sunday, Sept. 7, the event appeals to all ages by bringing together a Ferrari showcase and an Italian buffet, with wine, along with live music, face painters, magicians, and clowns, plus a raffle. All proceeds benefit The Children's Memorial Hospital. The festival hours run from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Huddle Up: It’s lights, camera, action at ESPN Zone every Friday this fall, where they’ll be taping ABC7’s hit football show, “The Chicago Huddle” (http://www.espnzone.com/chicago/). ABC sports reporter Ryan Chiaverini anchors this lively half-hour show, co-hosted by a rotating trio of Chicago football stars including Desmond Clark, Adewale Ogunleye, and Jason McKie. Plus, former Chicago radio “Rock Girl” April Rose joins the team as an audience liaison. Show tapings are every Friday at 4:00 p.m. starting September 5th. In addition to post-work food and drinks, it’s your chance to be part of a studio TV audience!
Wine and the City: Daley Bicentennial Plaza assumes sophisticated airs as it hosts the Windy City Wine Festival (http:// windycitywinefestival.com (http://windycitywinefestival.com)) on Friday, Sept. 5 and Saturday, Sept. 6. Sample from more than 250 international vintages from 50-plus vendors, and watch cooking demos from Dan Smith and Steve McDonagh of Hearty Boys Catering. Includes 10 wine tastings, live music, wine seminars, a souvenir wine glass, food and beer for sale and more. Bonterra and Fetzer reps share green living tips and offer organic wine samples. Participating restaurants include Morton’s, The Steakhouse, Riva, Aria and others. Featured musicians include songstress Kim Massie (Friday) and rockers The Michael Heaton Band (Saturday). A portion of the proceeds from the 2008 Windy City Wine Festival will be donated to the Grant Park Conservancy. Tickets: $25; $10 for "designated driver" tickets; get an additional 10 tasting tickets for $5.. Festival hours are: September 5 : 4 p.m. - 10 p.m., September 6 : 3 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Take Me Out to RoSal’s: As of September 1st the Cubs are 85 – 52 and the Sox are 77 – 59. The 88th Annual German-American Festival in the Lincoln Square neighborhood features traditional foods, beer and wine, live music, singers, folk dancers and more. It runs from Friday, Sept. 5 – Sunday, Sept. 7, and the admission is free. Coinciding with this festival is the 43rd Annual Von Steuben Parade (http://www.germanday.com) on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. This annual tribute to General Von Steuben's contribution to the U.S. military in 1777 starts at Lincoln Avenue and Irving Park Road; the parade route continues north on Lincoln Avenue to Lawrence Avenue.
