MUSIC, MUSIC EVERYWHERE
The alternative music fest that started it all, Lollapalooza, comes to Chicago’s Grant Park (http://www.conciergepreferred.com/host_cities/1-chicago/directories/2122) this weekend for a three-day, all-day music fest featuring hundreds of performers, eight separate stages, two food courts, a beer garden, play stations and a bevy of unique activities—all happening from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. daily. Attentive ears will be enveloped in music from Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Kanye West, Nine Inch Nails, Wilco, and Gnarls Barkley—headliners amongst a line-up of bands that’s strong from top to bottom. Equally talented, but lesser-known, bands such as Tally Hall, the Ting Tings and the Parlor Mob will have audiences running home to download their latest tracks. Come to Lollapalooza (http://www.lollapalooza.com/default.asp?fd=1) to listen to old favorites, discover rising stars, and experience the raging outdoor summer party!

SUMMER FINE-DINING
Custom House (http://www.conciergepreferred.com/directories/2091-custom-house), helmed by star chef Shawn McClain (also Spring and Green Zebra), is a progressive steak house centered on specialty meats of all kind, from duck to rabbit to good old beef. This month (through Sept. 1), McClain is offering a $38, three-course “Summer Break” menu. Each course is designed to bring out the flavors of summer. For an additional fee, custom-selected wines may be paired with the meal. Menus will vary throughout the summer to reflect available seasonal fare. Items featured on the menu may include: “Nicols Farm Green Bean Salad”; “Atlantic Skate Wing with Braised Summer Fennel”; “Slagel Farms Braised Pork Shoulder with Napa Cabbage and Summer Squash”; and desserts like “Strawberry Crepe with Whipped Marscapone and Orange Honey”. There is also a special summer $12 cocktail menu featuring drinks such as “The Custom House,” which features locally-produced vodka, spicy ginger syrup, lime juice, a splash of cranberry; and the “Sazerac” made with Old Overholdt rye, simple syrup, a dash of Peychaud bitters rinsed with absinthe and is served with a twist.

ALFRESCO SHOPPING
While summer days may be drifting away, the folks in Chicago’s Andersonville (http://www.conciergepreferred.com/neighborhoods/1) neighborhood are making sure everyone has one last shot at summer deals with their annual Andersonville Summer Sidewalk Sale (http://www.andersonville.org/), August 1-3. The sale, lining the streets between 5000 and 5800 North Clark Street, is a showcase of home-grown talent and national brands as retailers of all kinds call this quaint, Swedish-rooted area home will set up shop for the day to hawk their deeply-discounted wares in a celebration of community and caring. The eco-friendly have even more incentive to shop, as every $15-plus purchase using an Andersonville "re-bag," a reusable shopping bag, will net them a chance to win an Andersonville Shopping Spree. Even bookworms can save, as the Women and Children First Used Book Sale August 2-3 offers up bargain reads with all proceeds going to the Women's Voices Fund, encouraging female voices in literature and children's active participation in reading. Whether you need clothes, books, home furniture, acupuncture, or a massage, stop by the sidewalk sale to save money and celebrate a neighborhood.

UNDER THE KNIFE
The International Museum of Surgical Science (http://www.conciergepreferred.com/directories/1321-international-museum-of-surgical-science) welcomes two new exhibits into their medically and artistically esteemed galleries with a reception from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1. Both of the masterminds behind the exhibits, Laura Kurtenbach and Geraldine Ondrizek, will be at the reception to answer questions and describe the significance of their latest works. Kurtenbach's exhibit entitled ‘Myth Symbol Image’ is composed of pictures of stained glass windows with anatomical illustrations superimposed over them. These images compare and contrast the structure of the human body with the spiritual and mythical symbolism of Christian stained glass. Geraldine Ondrizek's newest work, ‘Fingerprint DNA’, collects DNA sequences taken from the fingerprints of her extended family and mounts them on fabric panels that resemble a loom. The loom-like structure is comparable to an Arab loom used to make rugs. Since the fingerprints were gathered from her Arab-American family, the art piece invokes the sense of heritage and tradition. The exhibits will run through Oct. 17.

PRESHISTORIC VISIT
A new event experience is on its way to Chicago and the ground is trembling: ‘WALKING WITH DINOSAURS—The Live Experience’ has sold out and broken records across the country and will be showing at The United Center Aug. 7-17. The show was originated in Australia by Director Scott Faris and the life-like performance includes an extraordinary history illustrating the evolution of dinosaurs. Climatic and tectonic changes of the earth are also portrayed, leading to the comet that led to the dinosaur’s extinction on earth. Ten realistic looking species of dinosaurs roam the stage in scenes indicative of how these huge beasts would interact with each other and how carnivorous dinosaurs evolved to walking on two legs. The show is both educational and entertaining with a paleontologist explaining the features of the dinosaurs in the first scene, leading to action-packed scenes throughout.
