River North Zip Code change effective TODAY!
Effective July 1, 2008 the Zip Code for some addresses in 60610 will be changing to 60654. All addresses in the entire River North area that are currently using 60610 and are south of Chicago Avenue will be assigned the new Zip Code. Those who will be affected should have already received a notice from the United States Postal Service. If you are in that area and haven't heard from the Postal Service, you may call the USPS Operations Programs Support at 312/983-8302 for complete information.
USPS indicates that this change is being made to maximize operating efficiency. Because USPS relies on automated sorting to nine-digit Zip Code areas and the dramatic growth in our area has virtually exhausted all nine-digit combinations in the 60610 Zip Code, a new Zip Code is being added.
• Mail will continue to be delivered to your address even with the 60610 Zip Code until July 1, 2009.
• However, after July 1, 2009 that courtesy will stop and mail will not be delivered unless the correct Zip Code is used.
• A map showing the the new ZIP code boundaries for 60610 and 60654 will be on display at the Fort Dearborn station, the Merchandise Mart and Ontario finance stations.
A meeting is being held Wednesday, July 9 at 6 PM on the second floor of the Fort Dearborn Post Office. This is a regular USPS meeting and is expected to discuss a variety of postal service issues including the new Zip Code change.
If you have any specific questions about the meeting, please call Rachel Nash at Alderman Reilly's office at 312/642-4242.
