Scottish High: Be Scottish for a day this summer as the Illinois Saint Andrew Society (ISAS) presents the 22nd Annual Scottish Festival & Highland Games (http://www.chicago-scots.org) on Friday, June 20 and Saturday, June 21 at the Oak Brook Polo Grounds. This annual summer celebration boasts a dazzling array of events for the whole family, including: a Champion Supreme Pipe Band competition; Highland Dance competition; Heavy Athletics U.S. Championship; Youth 5 v 5 Soccer Tournament; British Car Show; cultural exhibits; Scotch whisky tastings and seminars; live Celtic musical performances (both traditional and Celtic rock); Parade of Tartans; Kilted Mile Run/Walk; Raffle; Children’s crafts and activities; and a variety of attendee contests such as the Shortbread, Knobbly Knees, Haggis Hurling and Haggis Eating. Attendees can also enjoy traditional Scottish cuisine and drink, including a Tea Tent and the Celtic Marketplace, where a variety of unique Scottish and Celtic merchandise will be available for purchase. Friday only: $8 adults, $3 children, free parking; Saturday only: $13 adults, $6 children, $5 parking; Weekend Pass: $18; Patron Weekend Pass: $70 for both days, $55 for Saturday (Patron Ticket includes entry into the festival, and the VIP Tent with premier views of the Games’ attractions, complimentary food and beverage, Free Parking Pass for Saturday and merchandise coupon). Eine Crosstown Classic: It’s that time of year when Chicago is split in half between the North Siders and South Siders. The Crosstown Classic between the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox takes place June 20-22. If you can’t get your hands on the hottest baseball tickets of the season, or just want somewhere to celebrate pre-game, then head to the Berghoff (http://www.theberghoff.com/) for specials both sides can get behind. Fans can wear their black or blue and watch the games all weekend on the big screens. Try the sampler platter consisting of bratwurst, potato pancakes, spinach stuffed mushrooms and a stein of beer for only $7.95. Be sure to try one of the Berghoff’s own brews, too.
Taste of Randolph Street: Food is the focal point at this West Loop event, but the 11th Annual Taste of Randolph Street (http://www.jamfests.com/tasteofrandolph/) also offers live music, a wine garde, chef demos, art vendors and more. The festival stretches along six blocks, between Peoria Street and Racine Avenue. Participating restaurants: Aroma, de cero, La Luce, La Sardine, Macello, Marche, Red Light, Sushi Wabi, Veerasway, and more. Benefits West Loop Community Organization. Suggested donation $10. Sips and Tips: This weekend gives two different opportunities for wine enlightenment. At BIN 36, try Wine 103 - Food & Wine Synergy (http://www.bin36.com/calendar.html) on Sunday, June 22. This class consists of a one-hour lecture on matching food and wine and concludes with a light, three-course meal paired with appropriate bottles. The cost is $45. Meanwhile, Spring (http://www.springrestaurant.net) offers an Asian Pairings Class and Tasting, also on June 22. Learn to pair the unique flavors of Asia with wine. Guests will be led in a wine and food pairing class by Spring's owner, Sue Kim-Drohomyrecky. Small bites prepared by Spring Executive Chef Shawn McClain will illustrate the pairing potential. As an added bonus, featured wines from that day’s tasting will be made available to guests who choose to stay for dinner in the restaurant’s dining room for just $10 per bottle. Cost: $40 per person.

Guests will have the opportunity to interact with the chefs while they’re grilling and then vote on the best dish of the evening. Participating chefs include: Chef Bernie Laskowski of Park Grill, Chef Doran Payne of Rhapsody, Chef Jose Garces of Mercat a la Planxa, Chef Mark Baker of University Club of Chicago, Chef Michael Cisternino of Tavern at the Park, Chef Dirk Flanigan of The Gage, Chef Phillip Foss of Lockwood Restaurant & Bar. All proceeds of Chefs on the Grill will benefit Grant Park Conservancy, a not-for-profit organization seeking to improve and develop Grant Park.
