Father’s Day at the Races: Celebrate Father's Day (Sunday, June 15) with an exciting afternoon of live thoroughbred racing at Arlington Park (http://www.arlingtonpark.com/). This special day features fun for the whole family, including pony rides, face painting, petting zoo and live music. Kids can also make dad a special mug as part of Arlington Park's Junior Jockey Club. Special Father's Day brunch packages are also available. Gates will open at 11:15 a.m. with first post scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Sound of Grant Park: This week marks the opening of the 2008 season for the Grant Park Music Festival (http://www.grantparkmusicfestival.com/history.shtml). It’s the nation’s only remaining free, outdoor classical music series. Each summer, the Festival is committed to providing free classical music to all of Chicago in its new venue- the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. This weekend’s concerts feature two performances of Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis. Catch it on Friday, June 13 at 6:30 p.m. or Saturday, June 14 at 7:30 p.m. The performers include the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus; Carlos Kalmar, Conductor; Christopher Bell, Chorus Director; Erin Wall, Soprano; Anita Krause, Mezzo Soprano; James Taylor, Tenor; and Nathan Berg, Bass.

Date with Dad: So it’s probably not Dad’s first choice, but the smiles on the girls’ faces will be well worth it! American Girl Place (http://www.americangirl.com/stores/location_chi.php#events) offers girls a chance to spend a day with Dad. Together they’ll enjoy fun father-daughter activities and a delicious meal. The event includes a commemorative photo and keepsakes to take home as a reminder of the memories made during the special day. Saturday, June 14, 5:30 p.m. Theater; 7:30 p.m. Café; Sunday, June 15, 2:30 p.m. Cafe; 4 p.m. Theater. For girls ages 6 and up. Tickets are $58 per person (gratuity not included). Reservations required.

Al Fresco Art: This weekend heralds the 59th Annual Old Town Art Fair (http://www.oldtownartfair.org/), the country's oldest juried outdoor art fair. The festival features 260 invited artists displaying paintings, sculptures, photographs, ceramics, jewelry and more. It also includes a garden walk, live music, kids' activities and food vendors. Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission $5-$7. Main gate entry at Lincoln Avenue and Wisconsin Street. Rain or shine.

Swede for a Day (or Two): Looking for a side of ethnic flavor with your weekend festival? Go no further than the Andersonville Midsommarfest: (http://www.andersonville.org/index.php/events/midsommarfest/details/9) on Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15. This celebration of the neighborhood's Swedish heritage includes more than meatballs. Get a variety of international foods from local eateries, browse arts and crafts, watch a pet parade and rock out to four stages of live music and dancing. $5 donation benefits the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce. Located at Foster Avenue and Clark Street. Hours: 11 a.m. - 10 p.m.
