Sarafina

Presented by The Black Rep
With support from the Regional Arts Commission.

This Tony Award nominated musical is set in South Africa during the Soweto riots of 1976 and is told through the eyes of Sarafina, an ambitious schoolgirl actress-activist. Sarafina is ashamed of her mother's acceptance of her position as a domestic servant in a white household. Following the imprisonment of her inspirational teacher, Sarafina inspires her peers to rise up and join her in protest of the racist apartheid government
